Getting To Know YOU

So, the Grammys really aren't keeping my attention... They're not that great this year. So, to wake myself up I thought I'd join in on Keely's Sunday Getting To Know YOU Blog Carnival.

Today's questions are:

1. Do you iron your sheets?

Ha! I don't iron anything.

I. Hate. To. Iron. Period.

I'm a big fan of the "throw it in the dryer if it's wrinkled" club. Yep, that's me.

2. Your dream car is....?

Wow, I really don't know if I have a "dream car".... I like a lot of cars. My lease is actually up in June and we've been tossing around ideas as to what we'll get next. Not sure at this point.

But, I really do like THIS car:

This, my friends, is a BMW M6 Convertible. Very nice!

3. Do you have an innie or an outie belly button?

I've had an innie my entire life, until I got pregnant. It's not an outie, it's more like even with my stomach... and if I squeeze my stomach it's an outie. Kinda weird.

4. What meal do you look forward to the most... breakfast, lunch or dinner?

Usually lunch, because I eat it so late b/c of my work schedule. I'm starving by the time I get home and eat it.. which is usually between 2:30 and 3 pm.

But, when I know that I will be making breakfast on the weekends, then I definitely look forward to that! I love breakfast food for any meal of the day! It's the best. :)

5. Favorite mascara?

I like Clinique.

6. What would you say your decorating style is... traditional, modern, eclectic, country, french country, shabby chic, etc.

I am still trying to decide what my decorating style is. We've never really had the budget to buy really nice furnishings.... so I'm not sure. I think I lean more towards shabby chic/traditional though.

7. Have you ever been skinny dipping?

Yes. *blush*

8. I hate the smell of...?

Cat urine (outside of the litter box)- hands down the worst smell ever. Oh, and cheesy poofs. Not cheetos, but those big, light cheesy poofs. Gross.

Thanks Keely, good questions this week!

Babbles

Well, as of tomorrow I am 39 weeks pregnant! It's still unreal to me that we are going to be having a baby at any moment. We have an appointment tomorrow morning to see how I am progressing. Last Monday I was a little under a centimeter dilated and about 50% effaced. I have been having intermittent contractions since, so I am pretty sure that I have dilated some more.

Yesterday was my last day of work before baby. So, I have this week to "relax".... Ha ha! That's not something I am too good at doing. I have a few odd chores that I want to get done before the baby comes, such as clean out underneath the kitchen and bathroom sinks. Exciting, huh? But, I do plan on reading an entire book this week. That is not something I have done in a LONG time. I love to read, but just haven't had the time to curl up and lose myself in a book as of late.

Jason is planning on working from home this week, so we will be able to spend some time together. It'll be nice to just be with each other, because who knows when we will be alone again?

He was not feeling very well yesterday, some stomach issues. So we took it easy. Lots of naps and some chicken noodle soup. He is feeling better today, thankfully. :)

Since he was feeling up to it, we did some shopping at Sam's Club and the local grocery store to stock up on stuff so that I won't have to go out for awhile.

We also went to Sears to buy a TV for our bedroom. Unfortunately the one that we want won't be in stock until next Saturday, so we had them put one on hold for us. We may be busy next Saturday, though! Who knows?

We're trying to get done all of the little things that we can think of, so that we don't have to worry about anything for the time being. You know- taxes, shopping, etc.

We received a few more gift cards to Target from family and friends and have successfully gotten everything on our registry! I don't know how often that actually happens! We are expecting three deliveries this week, and that will be the rest of the baby stuff.

I feel very prepared and am looking forward to the week ahead. I'm not sure how fast it will go by... but everyday that passes means one more closer to the arrival of LBN!

I cannot contain my excitement! I am ready to meet our baby!

Five Question Friday

This week has flown by. It happens to be my last week of work, tomorrow being my last day. I can't believe it. It's so surreal! Hopefully this baby comes soon, or else I think I am going to get bored by being home all of next week!

It's also Five Question Friday with Mama M. Check out her site for more bloggers answers to these questions:

1. Would you ever vacation alone?

Definitely. I have no problem doing things alone. I'd love to take a tour of the Irish countryside alone. Mainly because I don't think anybody else would have the stamina and/or excitement that I would have for the journey, as well as put up with all of the historical sites I'd want to see. I'd also love to take a beach vacation somewhere by myself.

2. Do you go the speed limit?

Sometimes. In school zones I always do. And on certain streets where I know there are speed traps. But, on the highway I always go 5 over, sometimes more... He he he...

3. Why did you start blogging/following blogs?

Well, I initially started my blog to keep our family/friends updated on our life in Texas. I didn't really write very often... I think I actually abandoned it for almost a year at one point. I began to get back into the blogosphere after reading my old high school friend Elizabeth's blog. She has a great way of putting things into perspective, plus her daughter is super cute! It made me want to blog more and reach outer to a larger crowd of people. I definitely don't have a huge following, but it's nice to know that people are interested in what I have to say.

4. Where do you shop for yourself?

I love me some Banana Republic. Sadly, I haven't been able to shop there lately. I did get some gift cards for Christmas and my birthday though! Once I get back to a desirable weight I will definitely be putting them to use.

5. What was the song that you danced your first dance to at your wedding...or... what song would you like your first dance to be to?

This is probably the weirdest answer you will ever hear... but we will most likely dance to "City of New Orleans" by Arlo Guthrie. Don't ask, but it's our song! (Check out the video at the bottom of the page!) Our other song is "In My Life" by The Beatles. :)

Have a great weekend! Pray that this full moon helps my baby come!

Food for Thought

I realized the other day that I never write about my work. I'm not sure why. Because, let me be honest...

I LOVE MY JOB!!

No, that is not sarcasm. I really, truly do love my job. I work in a Veterinarian's office. And not just any Vet. He is one of the most hard-working, caring, compassionate and intelligent men I have ever met. I have more respect for him than I do for most people. I trust him and his actions completely, never questioning his methods or motives.

Not only is he a Veterinarian who practices on dogs and cats, he specializes in exotics. This means that on a day to day basis I get to see these (and a variety of other) critters walk through that door:

(Sugar Gliders)

(Scarlet Macaw)

(Hedgehog)

(Ball Python)

(African Spur Thighed Tortoise)

(Green Iguana)

(Chinchilla)

Think about it. A doctor needs to learn all there is to know about the anatomy and functions of the human body. But Veterinarians need to know so much more in order to treat their patients. My Vet is a literal volume of knowledge. The number of different types of species and breeds that he treats is unimaginable. I am so amazed by his knowledge and expertise, it's just unfathomable to me.

He also knows so much about how to care for all of these different types of animals. It is worth it for a new client with an exotic to come in and just speak with him for half an hour about how to care for their new pet. Many times people will buy a rabbit, ferret, snake, what have you at the pet store on a whim for their child. Then they get it home and have no idea what to feed it, what type of lighting it needs, etc.

I feel like I have learned so much from him and now feel very comfortable answering these questions for clients. That is, up until Monday evening.

Monday evening this walked through our door:

This, my friends, is a cayman alligator.

THIS IS NOT A PET!!!!

A group of men who work at an auto body shop had bought it and it was living in their shop, in who knows what type of conditions. They couldn't understand why it wasn't thriving.
This cayman was still a juvenile, only about 2 feet in length. It had an awful septic infection and its body temperature was only 66 degrees.

Obviously it was on the brink of death and had never been cared for properly. These animals come from South America and are accustomed to tropical environments. It was most likely kept in a cage without adequate heat or lighting, which resulted in its serious infection.

The man who brought it in did not seem concerned in the least about this poor creature. My Vet tried to explain to him that this was not a pet, that it should not be kept as one, and needed lots of room in order to grow and mature properly. The owner still seemed unfazed and uncaring about the animal.

Today we found the cayman dead. The Doctor tried everything he could to save the poor little guy, but it was just too late. It saddens me to think of the life it must have had. Kept in cramped captivity for its entire life, just to die an early death.

It's okay to have an exotic animal as a pet (as long as it's not an alligator!), but people need to realize that they need veterinary care as much as any other pet does. That they are harder to treat and at the first signs of illness they should be taken in to see a doctor.

Yes, they may not have an expensive price tag when you buy them, but they can become very expensive to treat if they are not cared for properly.

So, next time you see that cute little guinea pig for sale and your daughter is begging, whining for you to buy it for her... Just think that that poor little guy might need a Vet's help one day.

Are you going to be willing to take care of it properly? Afterall, it's a living creature and you are the one who is responsible for it.

Goodbye, dear friend

To my dearly departed,

We have had 28 wonderful years together. You've been there for me through the good and the bad. Sometimes only for an hour or so at a time, other times for what seems like days on end.

I could always depend on you to be there for me when I needed you. When I was sick, exhausted, hungover or being just plain lazy.

And now, now dear friend you have eluded me. No matter how hard I try I cannot catch you. Cannot strap you down for more than a few minutes at a time. This is when I need you most, yet I know it's not your fault.

It's my own discomfort that has caused your absence. My crampy legs, the start of contractions and the constant movement of LBN have caused you to leave. Not that I can blame you. It doesn't allow for a steady night for you in the least.

I'll miss you my friend. It may be atleast a year before we are able to spend some good quality time together again. But, I'll never forget you.

At times I know I'll yearn for you. I'll go crazy with jealousy over others who take you for granted. Who get to spend as much time with you as they'd like. What I'm sure I wouldn't do to swap places with them for even two hours.

So, please don't worry. I will return. Our time together will always be precious to me.

I love you sleep- you're one of the best friends a girl could have!

Love,

Emily

I Couldn't Resist

Sharing with you....

What the baby will be coming home in....

Yes those are ears! (and this is actually a boy's outfit from Target... they can wear yellow, too!)

This is a cute little back up....

Just in case the baby is smaller than I think it'll be...

*heart*

I can't wait to hug our adorable, little dreamer.... :)

Getting To Know You

Today has been a day of multi-tasking for me.

So, I thought I'd continue the trend by participating in Keely's Sunday Getting To Know You Blog Carnival while baking brownies and watching the Vikings beat the Saints.... Well, atleast I hope they do!

Only time will tell.

Sorry "who dat" fans.

Onto the questions:

1. Waffles, pancakes or french toast?

I like all three. But my all-time favorite are these yummy apple pancakes that I make! To. Die. For.

2. Dream home... what would it look like?

I have many ideas of a "dream home". I am a house freak. Definitely a porch, 5 bedrooms, BIG back yard (I'm talking some acreage, if possible), enough living space for family to come and visit and not feel crammed... Oh, and it has to be REALLY close to the beach. As in walking distance. But, I'd like some waterviews, too! So, I realize this may never happen. But that's okay. That's why it's a dream home!

3. Favorite sport to watch during the Winter Olympics?

In my humble opinion, I think the Summer Olympics are much better sports-watching wise. But, if I have to say... it'd probably be Snowboarding- those guys are awesome!

4. The first word that comes to mind when describing yourself?

Loud?

5. Dresses, pants or skirts?

Jeans or shorts, with flip flops of course!

6. What is your favorite time of day?

When I get home from work and my dogs are SOOO excited to see me! Then we take a nap together and have a little alone time before daddy gets home from work. It's really nice. But, I also love after Jason is home because that's when we have time together. :)

7. Beach or mountains... which do you prefer?

The beach! (as if you couldn't have guessed!!)

8. Will you watch the Super Bowl?

Heck yea! Well, atleast I will if I'm not in labor. LBN is due on Super Bowl Sunday... I love me some football, though! I am really bummed the season is over.

Now, I must get back to the game and check on my brownies! It's a new recipe, so hopefully they come out all right. Jason is quite the brownie critic.

As Luck Would Have It

So, right before Christmas our camera died.

Broke. Kapoot. Dead. Gone.

Jason and I were not happy. We looked into camera repair shops, but they were ridiculously expensive. We didn't want to spend the money (read, we didn't have the money) to get a new one, so we just kind of dealt with it.

Which meant no new pictures of my ever growing baby belly. No pictures of our wonderful Christmas Day with just the two of us and our furries. No pictures of our own from our Texas baby shower.

Then, luck/fate/whatever you want to call it intervened. Jason was going through some boxes in the garage and found our receipt from when we bought the camera! AND, there were some beautiful, wonderful, extraordinary, golden words near the bottom of it!

**Extended Warranty... $25.00

Could it be? We had spend 25 bucks on a warranty! And it was still good! But, the catch? We bought the camera from the now defunct Circuit City. So, I made a few phone calls and found out that our warranty was still good, even if CC had gone down the tubes.

They sent us a box to ship the camera off in. I packaged it up nice and tight with lots and LOTS of bubble wrap and sent it on its way.

Now, I must say I am rather impressed with this company. They had our camera back to us 8 days after I sent it to them.

EIGHT DAYS!

I found it on our doorstep when I arrived home from work yesterday. Our lovely camera. It works! I took pictures. Yay!

I am so happy! Now we can use both our camera and video camera to take pictures when the baby arrives.

That was our biggest fear, not being able to photograph our little one right after that big, screaming, red faced arrival into the world!

That was the best 25 bucks ever spent. Get the warranty people, it's worth it!

I will now leave you with a picture of baby belly at almost 38 weeks.

I'm off to clean up a little more, head to the grocery store and prepare dinner for some friends this evening. It should be a great night!

~Emily :)

Five Question Friday

Friday again! And I don't have to work this weekend, which makes it even better! I'm ready for a weekend full of beautiful weather, time with friends and football! I'm also ready to answer some 5QF questions courtesy of Mama M!

This week's questions are:

1. What is better, growing old without money or dying young and wealthy?

I think the obvious answer is to grow old and not have much money. But, man what I wouldn't do to have some money now to travel and explore the world! I want to see my children grow up, get married and have families of their own. I want to see what pathways life will take them down. And I definitely want to enjoy my life to the fullest with Jason. So, no moola for me!

2. Who takes out the garbage at your house?

Well, when it's time to change it in the can, we both do. I am also the one who changes all of the little garbage cans around the house. But, Jason actually puts it in the big garbage can and hauls it to the curb twice week.

3. Have you ever had the same dream many times?

Yes. I have a few dreams that repeat themselves every once and awhile.

**WARNING** Major nerd alert!

One I have been having more often is that I am fighting off Death Eaters with Harry Potter and company. And for some reason I can only use the most basic of spells and I always wake up (okay, actually by this point I am screaming in my sleep and Jason has to wake me up!!) right before somebody Avada Kedavra's my butt!

4. Can you play a musical instrument?

Yes I can. I was pretty musically inclined in my youth. I started out playing the organ when I was 8, then moved right along to the viola when I was 9. I stopped playing viola after a year though because I joined band and took up the Alto Saxophone. I played for about 10 years. And man was I darn tootin' good! I can still play the organ/piano and the sax, but not as much as I would like and/or should. Once we get a bigger house I would really love to get a piano!

5. If you owned your own store, what would you sell?

Hmm... I would really like to have a bookstore. There was a great one in my hometown growing up that I loved to go to. A small, independent store with many nooks and crannies with a variety of books. But, I would want one a little bigger that had a lot of seating areas for people to stay and read for awhile. I'd also want it to have a small cafe/coffee shop so people would come and study, work, etc.

Those are my answers and I'm stickin' to 'em! Please don't be too hard on me about my Harry Potter dreams! Jason all ready won't let me live them down....

Have a great weekend!

I'm now going to try and stay up to say farewell to Conan!

Days of the Living Dead

As of late, I have been feeling somewhat like this:

*insert sound of lumberjacks sawing logs here*

All of the time!

I am pooped. Exhausted. Drained.

I am amazed that I make it to work in the morning. I still manage to wake up at 5:45, eat my breakfast while watching the news and leave promptly at 6:30. But, I have no idea how I GET there! It's like I get in my car, and suddenly I'm at work.
I'd just like to apologize to all of the people that I might piss off in my driving haze. Who knows if I've run over some unsuspecting pedestrian, cut off school buses or ran a red light or two? I sure don't!
Once I'm at work, things are all right. I'm very focused and busy, so my time flies by. But, once again my drive home is blurry at best. But, I always seem to get back in one piece!

As soon as I walk in that door, it's all over. The bed, the couch, my big, comfy chair are all calling to me....

SLEEEP..... SLEEEEP..........SLEEEEEP!!!

I must obey. I can't let them down afterall!

So, usually after eating whatever I can find in the kitchen (lately, it's been cereal. Lots of cereal!), I settle myself and the dogs down for a nap.
I have become a professional napper. Sometimes sleeping for up to 3 hours without waking up once!
Which is a relief since I find myself waking up every 3 hours at night now to do the pee pee dance on the way to the toilet. Thank God our bathroom is about 2 feet away from my side of the bed! I don't think I'd make it otherwise.

Even after such a long nap, I can still manage to fall asleep early (like 8 or 9 am) and not get up until my alarm goes off in the morning. It's ridiculous!

Yes, I still manage to get things done (you know, laundry, dishes, etc.)... but now the little things are real accomplishments for me. Here are some examples:

Today I walked 3 houses down to our community mailbox, opened it up and retrieved the mail. And THEN I walked back!

On Sunday I went for a mile long walk with our friends, Jason and the dogs. Afterwards I took a two hour nap... but hey! I did it!

Yesterday I was able to hold it in until I was asked to pee in the little cup at my OB's office. Usually, I can't hold it the whole time up until the appointment.

Over the weekend I "supervised" the rearranging of furniture in our living room. Again.

For the past two days I have not gotten annoyed at the one co-worker of mine who just grinds my gears. I think I'm just too tired to want to smack her everytime she says something stupid and/or inappropriate.

Yep. I'm pretty amazing, aren't I? Ha!

Well, I'm now going to try to stay awake to watch The Biggest Loser. I *heart* that show!

Getting To Know You

The weekend is over all ready??

NOOOO!

We had friends in from out of town visiting this weekend. We haven't seen them since October, so it was nice to catch up!

They just left, so I thought I'd hop in on Keely's Sunday Getting to Know You Blog Carnival!

If you want to play hit her up in MannLand, answer the questions and link it up!

And, this week's questions are:

1. Hair color... au naturale.. or not?

Not. I've been dyeing my hair for a LONG time! Right now I have some blonde and caramel highlights that need to be touched up. I'll have to wait until after baby is born to get that done though.

2. If somebody has food in their teeth or lipstick on their teeth do you tell them?

I will if I know them. If it's a stranger, possibly. Depends on what kind of person I feel them out to be.

3. Would you rather have a million dollars or your vision of the perfect body?

I'll take the moola thankyouverymuch! Then, I could hire a trainer to help me get the perfect body.. among other things!

4. Favorite magazine?

Coastal Living. LOVE IT! One day I will have a house like one of those... one day!

5. Bra style... lacey or plain?

Nursing bras. Fun fun! And oh so sexy... riiiiight!

6. If you walked into Victoria's Secret... would you most likely come out with something sexy or comfy?

If it was me, comfy... but next time I go there I'll probably get something that Jason will like!

7. Do you fake and bake?

Nope. I used to when I was in my early 20s... Not anymore. I usually get a decent tan here in the Texas sun!

8. What's your favorite body part on a man?

Mmm... I like some nice arms, and a cute butt! Jason has both.. Yay!

Oh, and in case you were wondering... tomorrow marks 37 weeks.... and full term! I cannot believe it!
Any day now...

Five Question Friday

Now, we all know that no Friday is complete unless you've answered Mama M's Five Question Friday questions... So, head on over to her blog, answer the Q's and link up! Oh, and the word on the street is that if 100 people link up today, Mama will be doing a giveaway!

Today's questions:

1. Worst trouble you ever got into as a teenager?

I honestly do not want to answer this question. I was almost out of my teens when I did something very stupid and immature that I regret to this day. I am not proud of the decisions that were made. Let's just say it's not something many people know about, only close friends and immediate family. So, it's going to stay that way! Sorry guys!

2. Are you a morning person or a night person?

Well, right now I am neither. I usually get up pretty early for work and I don't mind it. I love to work earlier and get out earlier than have to stay and work late. But, I'm so tired in the evenings, that I can't usually stay up past 10.

3. Are you a one-handed or two-handed texter?

One-handed... no keyboard for me!

4. Democrat, Republican or Independent?

Ha ha! Don't get me started people! I used to be a registered Independent... but pretty much I'm a Democrat. Every once in a blue moon I will vote for a Republican candidate if I feel they are qualified for the job. I am definitely NOT a Republican, as I am NOT a Conservative. I live in Texas (the land of the George Bush's... Oh Dear God!) so that makes things hard sometimes... Anyway, that's all I have to say about that. (Thanks Forrest!)

5. Are you a pet person?

Really? Do I even NEED to answer this? This is a HUUUGE yes! My pets are my children. I would do anything for them. ANYTHING. Animals make this world a better place and make life happier to live. As my Papa always said, "Every child deserves a dog." He is so right!

Have a fab weekend everyone!

~Emily

M.I.A.

So, in case you didn't notice... I took a little blogging break this week. I've been reading all of your blogs, don't worry! I just haven't been writing in my own. Yes, I've had things I've wanted to blog about... but I don't think that I really had the energy to do it.

*sigh*

My energy has been zapped. It's gone! This LBN inside of me has taken all of it!

Well, LBN and the fact that I have been an OCD mad woman as of late and have to have everything PERFECT in my house, lest I have a heart attack.

Floors swept, laundry done, dishes washed, beds made, bathrooms shining.. you get the idea.

No, I do not believe I am "nesting" yet. I just think I am being overly anal/paranoid that I will go into labor and things will not be done. I do not want to come home to a disaster area after poppin' this little baby out in the hospital!

So, anyway... some things that have happened in the last week:

* I broke another water glass. In all I believe this brings the total to atleast 7 throughout my pregnancy. We now have 2 glasses left, and Jason has demanded that I only drink out of plastic cups from now on. We have friends visiting this weekend, so I'll have to make a trip out to Bed, Bath and Beyond to buy some glasses. That, or else they'll be drinking water out of wine or shot glasses. Very nice!

* The baby has not moved "into position" (very military sounding, right?) and my cervix is not yet dilated. We'll see what happens at Monday's appointment.

* I broke down and bought myself a beautiful iron fruit bowl stand from Pier One. I heart Pier One! I went and "visited" this bowl twice before I finally caved in and purchased it for myself. No, there is not fruit in it. Instead I bought some fake flowers and use it in my foyer as a decoration. I love it!

* My dogs were bathed. Finally! I've been a bad canine mommy and they haven't had baths in over a month. They were becoming stinky little buggers!

* I had a fantastic visit with an old friend. She came down from Pennsylvania and we spent an afternoon/evening catching up. It was great to see her. It's so nice to meet up with special people from your past- no matter how much time has transpired, it feels like only yesterday you were together. :)

* We had our baby shower! It was wonderful! Holly and Janet really did a fantastic job of throwing it for us. (I'll write a separate post and put up some pictures about it!)

* I was eyed up by three different clerks at three different stores. They all approached me to ask if "I was all right"... What they meant was "You had better NOT go into labor in this store or else I will have a panic attack and pee my pants!" Yep... Thanks sales ladies.

*I have gone to Target 3 times. Why? Because Target is awesome. They are also having a MAD clearance sale on almost all thins baby. Jason and I went a *little* nuts and bought a ton of stuff for LBN!

Okay, so I promise I'll write more often. Next time I take a long break like that, it's probably because something has happened... as in, baby time! Eeek!

Sunday Sunday

Yep, Sunday all ready! Where did the weekend go? Really.. where did it go?

It's time for Keely's Getting To Know YOU Sunday Funday. So, answer the questions and link back up with her here if you'd like to play!

1. If you were stranded on a desert island and could pick one person to be stranded with you... who would you pick? Family members not included.

Well, I will never forget reading a book called "The Cay". Pretty much a little boy and a black servant, named Timothy, get stranded on an island after a shipwreck. The little boy ends up going blind and Timothy has to teach him how to survive. It was almost like Timothy knew something was going to happen to him and the boy would be alone, so he taught him everything! How to build a hut, fish, build a fire, cook conch meat, etc. I would pick Timothy, because the kid survived and was eventually rescued!

2. Do you read celebrity gossip?

Eh, I don't on purpose. Meaning, I don't search it out. My sister and sister-in-law are obsessed with US Weekly. I'll pick up a People every few months, but it's not imperative. I usually will read something online about celebs. I mean, it's impossible to avoid, isn't it?

3. Favorite show you're watching this season?

Well, the only show I really plan on watching is The Biggest Loser. I love it!

4. How tall are you?

Five feet and five inches.

5. What was the last book you read?

What to Expect When You're Expecting! Ha ha! Shocking, right? I am now reading What to Expect the First Year.

6. Flats or heels?

I LOVE heels! I definitely own a lot more of them than I do flats. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to wear them as often because I'm a preggo and it's kinda hard to teeter around on heels when you've got a giant belly hanging out in front.

7. If you had to choose one natural disaster to go through, what would you choose... Earthquake, Tornado or Hurricane?

Well, I've seen Tornadoes and Hurricanes. But, never a really BAD tornado. We had just moved to Texas when Hurricane Ike hit in 2008 and it was freaky! We didn't have power for 6 days afterwards, and the clinic I work at didn't have power for 2 weeks! I'm just glad we came out all right in the end. I guess I am exempt because I all ready went through two, right?!

8. Thong, panties, or (gasp!) granny panties?

Thong when I "go out", and regular undies the rest of the time. I have been wearing preggo panties lately, and Jason isn't too big of a fan! But they are SOOO comfy! Also, I absolutely DESPISE the word panties. My mom gave me a birthday card this year and it said "Put On Your Big Girl Panties" on it. She thought it was SOO funny because I HATE that word!

I'm off to change and get ready for my baby shower today! I can't believe it's all ready here. The days are just going by faster and faster! The baby is due in FOUR weeks and I'll be full term in ONE week! Gah!

Five Question Friday

Aaahh... Friday! I've been waiting for this day all week. Unfortunately, I have to work this evening (blah!), but after that I'm free!

I have an old friend from Junior High/High School coming down here to check out Hospitals to do her Residency in. We'll be spending the day together on Saturday. I'm super excited! Then, on Sunday it is our Texas baby shower! Busy weekend, but it'll be fun fun fun!

Anyways, onto Five Question Friday with Mama M! Read my answers, then you can answer the questions yourself on your blog and link back up with Ms. Mama right here.

So, this week's questions are:

1. What is your comfort food?

Well, this is a hard one! I make some killer homemade macaroni and cheese, as well as awesome chicken and dumplings. I would have to say those are pretty good foods to yom on for some comfort. Oooh, or pierogies? Yumm... I really LOVE food, so I'm sure there are more things I wouldn't mind chowin' down on when I'm feelin' blue!

2. Do you send Thank You's? (handwritten or email)

I send them for things like baby gifts.. but not for Christmas or Birthday presents. Those I thank with a phone call. My mother taught me very well that I should always send Thank You cards, and they MUST be handwritten. I was a little mad at the postal service after my Ohio baby shower, because it took them over a WEEK to deliver my thank yous!

3. If you had to be trapped in a TV show for a month, which show would you choose?

I really do not know. Maybe Saved by the Bell? That would be pretty awesome! But, I'd want to be able to freeze frame stuff like Zack could! Ha ha.

4. What is your favorite online recipe site?

Hands down it is allrecipes.com. Lots of people use it, so there are great recipes and reviews. I never actually use a whole recipe from the site though. I find a few recipes that I like of whatever it is that I want to cook, then I kinda take what I like from each of them and make my own!

5. If you had to choose: "Friends" or "Seinfeld"?

Well, I have to brag for a second and say that Jason got me a pretty rockin' birthday present. He bought me the entire series of "Friends" boxset. Yay!! But, I really like both of these shows. They're different types of comedy... so I'm really not sure... Sorry. No answer for this one.

Okay, well I'm off to finish cleaning up before I head off to work. Happy Friday!

It really is the little things in life

So, as I mentioned in this post, we had a little snafu with our water line. Our water was turned off for almost 24 hours.

Did you hear me????

TWENTY FOUR HOURS!!!

Granted, part of that time I was at work or sleeping... But, still.

No. Water. At. All.

Jason went out and bought about 8 gallons of bottled water which we used to brush teeth, drink, give to the animals, etc. You get the picture.

The pipe cracked sometime Wednesday morning. I called the water company so that they could come out and take a look at the situation. Our yard was saturated, there was a river flowing down our street and around the corner to the sewer drain.

Never was I told that we could turn off this water.

Thanks water company lady. *insert sarcastic voice while saying this*

Mind you I called around 10 am, before going to work. Jason came home at 3 pm and still nobody had come from the water company. And still our water was flowing from this darn pipe. Our water meter read about 1.4 million gallons of water had all ready passed through that crack in this pipe. That is A LOT of water!

One of our neighbors happened to be standing in our yard looking rather perplexed when Jason arrived home. He told Jason that we could turn off the water. Jason dug around, found the valve and voila! No more water.

Finally, Mr. Water Company Man arrives. In his 30 second assessment he determines it is OUR pipe, not the district pipe that has cracked. We need to call a plumber. It's not his problem.

GREAT!

No water, a bunch of water wasted, and we get to pay for it all! Hurray!

This afternoon we had a plumber come out. He was efficient and all business. He had the ground dug up, the problem area in the pipe pinpointed and fixed in about 2 hours.

The first thing we did after we had water?

Hot showers. Aaaahhhh!

I love me my hot showers!

Moral of the story?

Do not take things like running water in your home for granted. It really is a luxury! You can't do so many things without it. Cook, clean, wash dishes, wash laundry, drink, brush your teeth, bathe... I can go on and on and on! It was horrible not having it for that short amount of time. Could you imagine NEVER having running water? Think of all of the people in this world that do not.

Be thankful for the little things, they make our day to day lives so much easier.

I Love My Grama

Wordless Wednesday...

I hope to one day be as strong as she is, I wouldn't mind her wit either. She also has the best darned memory in the WORLD! She'll be 87 in February and is still going strong! I love you Grama. :)

Thank You!

I just want to take a moment and thank everybody who comes to read my lil' old blog! Today my counter hit 1o00 visits, which I think is pretty darn good considering I just put it up two months ago! You must really enjoy my ramblings. :)

We went and met with a prospective Pediatrician this morning. Both Jason and I liked him, the office and the staff very much. I think we've decided he will be our little's one doctor! One less thing to worry about. Phew!

This morning we woke up to an unpleasant surprise. The water pressure was pretty low, and when Jason went outside to grab my jacket from the car he noticed our front yard was saturated and there was a bunch of water in the street in front of our house. So, a water pipe broke. Fantastic! The worst part? I cannot find the number to our water company anywhere! Ugh!

So, once I find that I'll make a phone call and hopefully somebody can come out today and take a looksy at our little situation.

Now, I'm off to clean up a bit before heading off to work.

Happy Hump Day!

Truthful Tuesday

This Tuesday Elizabeth is asking a really great question for her Truthful Tuesday Blog Carnival. Check out her site for some other great answers to the following:

Have you ever lost something and came out a winner?

I saw this question earlier in the day, and really had to think about what my answer would be. We've all lost things. Some don't seem significant at the time (where'd those car keys go?), others (especially breakups!) seem catastrophic when they are happening.

Waaaaaay back (almost five years ago!) when Jason and I first started dating, I was a restaurant manager. I had been working for the same company for almost 7 years. I started working there in high school, kept getting promoted and just stayed. I was going to college on and off, but was only able to go full-time for one year.

My job was very demanding, with long hours and little flexibility when it came to scheduling. I pretty much had to be available ALL of the time, even third shift, when needed. I would work VERY early mornings (sometimes 4 am!) to the late evenings (11 pm on those busy weekend nights). I did enjoy my job, and damn was I good at it! I took pride in my work, and I loved being able to take care of myself.

I had a nice apartment, a brand new car, could take myself on some awesome vacations and I really enjoyed the financial freedom of not having to depend on anybody else. But, there were some drawbacks. I really wanted to go back to school. And, I wanted to do more than work in a restaurant. There were people in the company who had been there longer than me. I mean A LOT longer than me. Many were bitter, and in their higher up positions, were not paid very well. They had families to support, long hours to work and didn't seem happy with where they were in life. I did NOT want to be like them.

Jason knew that I was smart, and that I really wanted to go back to school full-time. So, with his encouragement, I took a very big step and quit my safe, financially secure job. It was horrifying! I didn't have a job when I quit, and it took me THREE months to find a new one! Jason had no problem supporting me and paying my bills until I was able to find a new job, and I hated it! I did not want to depend on him to help me out, I was the girl who had always done everything for herself!

He knew this was just a stepping stone for me to get me going and onto my new life as a part-time worker and a full-time student. I went back to school, and immediately fell into a great group of classes and became active in different student organizations. Work took a back seat to my education, and it was nice. Yes, I missed having extra spending money and being able to treat myself to whatever I wanted when I wanted it. But, it was fantastic to expand my mind and to be learning new things. I love to learn, and I believe you are never too old or too young to be learning.

Now, here we are five years later. I've changed jobs a few times, mainly because we have moved. I've also changed schools a few times, as well (also because of moving). My new jobs have been much more flexible with my school schedule, and I never let work come before my education. I love being a student, and even though quitting my old job and leaving my comfort zone was terrifying at the time, it was worth it!

With a baby on the way, I plan on continuing my education by returning to school this coming Fall semester. I now realize this is what is truly important to me, and I will always try to be taking a class or two, even after I finish my degrees. It never hurts to enrich your mind!

Not Me! Monday

Monday again!? How the time does fly. 5 more weeks until baby day.... are you ready? Ha! It's not you that needs to be ready, it's me!

I could write down my Not Me's for the week and join in with MckMama's Not Me! Monday blog carnival.... or....

Okay, just kidding. That's what I'm gonna do! If you'd like to see other peoples confessions for the week head on over to MckMama's site for what they have to say!

It is NOT me who forgot to add some of our best friends to my baby shower invite list! And it is NOT me who just found out about it today and the shower is on Sunday! They live 4 hours away, so hopefully they can still make it! Whoops!

This weekend I did NOT take down all of our Christmas decorations. I also did NOT break an ornament while taking them off of the tree. This does NOT happen pretty much every year. Atleast it was NOT a generic colored ball that I have atleast 50 of.

I have NOT been on a huge hot chocolate kick lately. I have NOT either been stopping by Starbucks or preparing some Swiss Miss Cocoa for myself everyday. I cannot NOT get enough of this stuff! Yummm!

And finally (I am not going to use the NOT in this one) we did have a little scare this weekend with LBN. The baby wasn't kicking as much as usual, which resulted in a call to the doctor's office this morning. They told me to come in immediately and then hooked me up to a fetal monitor for an hour. Luckily everything came out okay. They said sometimes this just happens. I got a stern lecture from my doctor to not let something like this go for so long next time. She said that if the baby does not kick 10 times within a 2 hour window to go to her office or to the ER. We are very lucky that everything is okay with LBN! So, nothing to worry about!

Happy Monday!

First and foremost, I must complain. (Sorry! Not a good way to start off a blog, I know.. I know..!)

I had the WORST night's sleep EVER last night! My back is aching unbelievably, and it seems that no matter how I try to lay I am uncomfortable. Oh sweet little baby, how I love you though!

*le sigh*

Okay, enough of that! On to another round of Keely's Sunday Funday Questions! Hop on over to her site to see what other's had to say, if you're interested that is!

Today's questions are:

1. Where were you born?

I was born in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio on a cold January morning!

2. Toilet paper.... do you crinkle/crumple or fold it?

I am a folder of the tp. Always have been, always will be. Just makes things easier!

3. What was the last movie you saw in the theater?

I LOVE to see movies in the theater! Jason does not. Too expensive and what not. So, for Christmas he got me a Cinemark gift card, so that we can go to the movies. We just went and saw Sherlock Holmes on New Year's Eve during the day. It was fantastic! Before that the LAST movie that we saw in the theater TOGETHER was I Am Legend. Yep. That tells you how often we go to the movies!

4. What room do you spend the most time in besides your bedroom?

Either the kitchen or living room.

5. Would you be grossed out if you found out your husband/boyfriend/significant other hadn't brushed their teeth for 4 days and you had been snogging (kissing) them?

Okay, first of all, I know Miss Keely only asked this question because she wanted to use snog in a sentence! But, yes! Who wouldn't be grossed out by that? Eww!

6. Do you fold your underwear?

I do when I put it away, but it always seems to come unfolded in my drawer. But, Jason's always stays folded in his. Hmm...

7. What is one goal you would like to achieve this year?

Check out this post to my answer to this question!

8. What is your favorite month/least favorite month?

Well, now that I'm a Texan, this has definitely changed from when I was an Ohioan.

In Texas October and March are FANTASTIC! The summer (June-September) is miserably hot and humid, to the point where you don't want to leave your air conditioned home for fear of melting, ala the Wicked Witch!

In Ohio, I'd have to say February is my least favorite month, only because by then it has been snowing since November, and enough is enough all ready! My favorite month(s) in Ohio would be the summer months through September, when the leaves start to change and fall is in the air!

How different those answers are based on where you live!

Well, I'm off to de-Christmas my home and to get ready for some football!

Have a happy Sunday! :)

The Resolution Post

So, I really don't have much of an opinion on New Year's Resolutions. Some people are all for it. Others are all for making them and breaking them. Some, don't even bother.

They resolve to lose 80 pounds, go to the gym everyday and eat nothing but celery for the rest of their lives. Sure....

Others that they will save every extra dime, never look at Target clearance again and will have an extra $10,000 saved at the end of the year. Right....

I see nothing wrong with making a resolution, as long as it's realistic and one that you can truly try to obtain and stick with. I am normally not one for making resolutions. I am usually the smart ass who resolves NOT to make a resolution. Ha ha, clever me!

But, this year, I am going to make two resolutions. Both will be related to myself post baby.

Resolution #1: To be a good mother. As in, to be the best mother I can possibly be. To live up to my own standards, not others opinions or expectations as to what kind of mother I should be. If I am doing all I can to be a good mommy, then that is what counts. Not what Susie Opinionated next door or Sally Know-It-All at Gymboree thinks is a good mother. I will love, nurture, entertain, feed, and care for my baby to the best of my ability. I will not slack, make excuses or compare myself to other moms. My mom style will be my own and it will be what works best for me, whether others like it or not! We're all different, right?

Resolution #2: Now, this one falls into the weight loss realm a little bit. Which, to be honest, is a scary place to be when making resolutions. How many of us vow to lose weight, usually a large amount of weight, and fail miserably? I have two weight loss goals.

1: to get back to my pre-baby weight 3 months after having the little one. So, as of right now, that gives me 3 months to lose approximately 11 pounds (give or take depending on how much more I gain/lose before baby's arrival). I definitely think that is an achievable goal.

After achieving that, 2: my next goal will be to lose an additional 40 pounds by the end of the year. But, I want to do it by exercising with baby. I am very motivated to meet other new mothers in the area, so what better way than by joining Mommy and Me fitness classes? Another goal I find to be attainable. That will give me 7 months to lose 40 pounds. Which is enough time to do it the right way, which is the healthy way.

Wish me luck on my Resolutions. What about you, are you making any resolutions this year?

Happy 101!

I have received this award from Keely over in MannLand! It's my third blogging award and I'm very excited that she chose to give it to me!

Of course, as with any award there are some rules to follow.

1. List 10 things that make you happy.
2. Give this award to 10 people.

So, without further adieu, here are 1o things that make me happy (in no particular order):

1. Jason, and the backrubs he gives me!
2. My family, or I could just say I love chaos!
3. The beach, any beach, anywhere.
4. Receiving mail from friends and family
5. Soup from Panera... Mmmm.... with some crusty bread to dip in it!
6. Lillies
7. My furry children
8. Sunshine, it makes me smile and it makes me tan!
9. Feeling the baby move in my belly. :)
10. Road trips and just long, random drives in the car

Now, as for my 10 people... Hmmm... that may require some thought!

Check back for my picks!

Five Question Friday

Happy New Year everyone!

What better way to start it off than a little round of Five Question Friday with Mama M? Okay, actually our January 1st started off with Jason spilling an entire jug of grape juice in our refrigerator, but I digress...

On to the questions:

1. If you could bring one character to life from your favorite book, who would it be?

Gah! This is a VERY hard question. I LOVE to read.. and I definitely cannot narrow it down to a favorite book. But, I'd have to say that having Bridget Jones around for a day would probably be pretty darn entertaining... she'd definitely provide a few laughs over a round of drinks!

2. Where did you get your very first kiss?

At the lake in my backyard growing up. Pretty uneventful to be honest.

3. How did you welcome in the New Year?

Well, like I mentioned in this post, I was hoping to stay up until midnight. It was pretty odd to watch Dick Clark on TV counting down the seconds 'til the ball dropped... and then it was only 11 pm!

Stupid Central Time putting us back a whole hour!

We got phone calls and texts from friends and family wishing us a Happy New Year (and Happy Birthday to me, since I am a New Year's baby!), and it was still December 31st!

I did manage to stay up until midnight, and then immediately went to bed and crashed.

Our little dog spent the better part of the evening shaking to death in a panic from the firecrackers popping outside our house. I swear these Texas people are obsessed with fireworks!

4. What is your favorite Beatles song?

Double gah! They are one of my all-time favorite bands... I have all of their albums! I would be hard pressed to pick just ONE song.

Hmm... In My Life is a special song for Jason and I.. But I also love:

Blackbird
Hey, You've Got to Hide Your Love Away
Mother Nature's Son

I can go on and on....

5. Donuts: overrated, underrated, or 'bout right?

The Doctor that I work for has a friend who comes into the clinic everyday to visit for a little bit. Every Tuesday morning, like clockwork, he brings in Shipley Donuts for us to munch on. I have not eaten one for months now.

I like donuts, but in moderation. Definitely not once a week! They are a treat and shouldn't be eaten so much. Plus, they are SOO bad for you!

When I was little I sure did love me some "Donut Sunday" at church, though!

Well, have a great day! Be sure to eat pork and sauerkraut for good luck!
