Gettin' My Shred On

I love The Biggest Loser. It is one of the only shows that I make a point to watch every week. I really enjoy getting to know everybody's story, and I love to see how the contestants progress both weight-wise, mentally and emotionally throughout the season.

With that being said, one of my New Year's Resolutions, that I wrote about in this post, was to lose weight. My first goal was to lose all of my baby weight within 3 months of Aidan's birth. Well, it's all gone and it only took me 4 weeks! So, I thought I may as well begin my second goal of that resolution- to lose an additional 40 pounds by the end of 2010.

This is a big goal for me. And one I intend to follow through on and achieve. I have my doctor's blessing, so there is no reason why I shouldn't start now. The sooner, the better.

You see, Aidan was our little miracle. A little miracle whose arrival was unplanned. I would have preferred to have been in better physical shape before getting pregnant. Granted, my pregnancy was fantastic and I felt great almost the entire time (other than trouble sleeping, slight anemia and some bad backache), but I would have liked to have been at a lower weight.

So now I am determined to get myself down to a healthier weight, a realistic weight. No, not the 115 pounds I weighed in High School! Yea, right! I don't want to be Skeletor!

Today I started Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred. I've read a lot of good things about it on other blogs, so I thought I'd give it a go. I picked it up at Target for a mere $9 and bought a cute Yoga mat for an additional $15. The weights I have at home are 8 pounders, and since I haven't touched weights in over 9 months, I decided to use Campbell's Chunky Soup cans instead! Once I feel a bit stronger I'll go back to my "real" weights.


Let me tell you that Ms. Jillian kicked my arse! I cannot believe how out of shape I am. It's rather depressing. Unless you count the occasional walk around the block (once a week on average) I did not work out at all during my pregnancy. Needless to say, I have the stamina of a 90 year-old asthmatic. Not good. I was out of breath about 5 minutes in. Thankfully, it's a 20-minute workout. I can squeeze it in while Aidan is napping, which isn't usually longer than 30 minutes at a time. I am hoping that this will give me the jumpstart I need to get back into a healthy lifestyle routine.

Wish me luck! Tomorrow is Day 2 of my 30 Day Shred... I hope I do a little better! I know I feel better all ready! I always feel great after a good workout. :)

  2. Hey, girl! I also want to lose 40 pounds by the end of the year, which will get me back to the weight I was when I got married. I'm 8 pounds away from pre-pregnancy. Message me on FB and let me know how you like the 30 Day Shred - I'll get it if you love it and it works!
