Motherhood

I love being a mom. It's the greatest, most rewarding job I've ever had in my entire life.

But, man is it a lot of work!

I have a new respect for mothers out there, especially those with more than one child. How do you do it?

I guess I AM doing it... but... Whew! I feel busier than I ever have before.

A few things I have learned about motherhood so far:

* If you have long hair, wear it in a ponytail! Spit up will ALWAYS find its way to your hair if you have it down.

* Never assume that baby is actually sleeping. Once you lie down for a nap or start to get stuff done around the house, that little one will wail for your attention!

* You can never have too many burp cloths or binkies.

* Your voice (singing and speaking) will never sound so beautiful or soothing to anyone else.

* You'll be amazed at how well you can function on 4 hours of sleep.

* Slings are God's gift to mothers everywhere. Really. Buy one. NOW!

* It's okay if you leave clothes in the dryer all weekend. They'll get folded eventually.

* Don't feel guilty for needing some time away from the house by yourself. Enjoy it!

* You will realize you have back muscles that have never been used up until now!

* Be sure to spend time every day with your pets. They were here first and they love you unconditionally. Give them the love they deserve in return.

* Never again will you take a nice, long, hot shower for granted! Take it while you can get it!

* Accept that you cannot do it all like you used to. Just do the best you can with the time you have.

* Everyday brings a new challenge... don't worry, you'll figure it out!

Back to my little man...

  1. What a great post! I agreed with each and every one... although, sadly, my poor little dog got lost in the shuffle when we brought G home. Her life got turned upside down, and she's never been the same since. She's still her playful little self, just not as happy as she was as an "only child"!
