HTML mishap and weekend plans

So, if you've been checking back here periodically you can see that I've been messing around a lot with my format. The truth is, I have completely screwed up my HTML and am not sure what to do. I can't seem to get things back to the way they were... hence the blogger format you see now. I'm trying to fiddle with it when I have free time, but truth be told, that isn't too often these days.

This weekend should be a busy one. This evening we will be visiting a good friend of mine who had a baby girl last Thursday. She is Aidan's future wife, so I don't think we should hold off on the introductions for much longer. I'm taking over dinner so that she doesn't have to cook and I'm very excited to hold her little baby girl. I'm sure Aidan will seem SOO big compared to her. My little man is certainly growing up.

Tomorrow morning I'm getting a pedicure with another friend. We haven't really had any girl time, we usually hang out with together with the guys, so it'll be nice to get some one on one time in with her. Not sure what we will be doing tomorrow evening, but I hope it involves some grilled meat, a good movie and an early bedtime for Aidan.

Sunday we are meeting up with up some ladies and their families from my Mom and Me group for dinner at a local restaurant. Since I've been traveling so much I really haven't had much of an opportunity to be active in the group this past month. It will be nice to spend time with everyone and get to know them and their families better.

That's about all that's going on down here in Texas. If you have any advice for me on my HTML problem, please feel free to offer it up!

Have a great weekend everybody! :)

(Aidan and I headed out for a walk. He loves my new sling!)

Living Room Progress

My first post since returning from Ohio. Whew! I have lots to tell, but first I thought I'd show the progress my living room has made.

Some of you may remember my "Help my living room is awful" post that I wrote a few months back for Amanda's Decorating Dilemmas Party. I received A LOT of extremely helpful comments and took the advice of those lovely commentors.

The room still has a long way to go, but it's slowly getting better. The budget is small right now, so I didn't buy too much, but I did rearrange some furniture, took out the dog crates and well... you'll see!

Before. We had the couch pushed up against the fireplace. I'm still not a big fan of the gray marble, but it definitely looks better now that it isn't being blocked by our couch.

After. The couch is angled and you have a great view of the fireplace. I'm still looking for some items to put on the hearth to make it a true centerpiece for that wall.

Before. The area to the left of the fireplace was being reserved for Jason's fish tank. It looked empty and kinda blah.

After. I moved our big, green chair over to that spot and angled it so that the space is taken up and doesn't look so bare. The wall is still not decorated. Working on it! I am also thinking about putting a small table behind the chair or next to it on the side closest the wall. Thoughts?

Before. What I hated most about our living room was that the first thing you saw when you walked in the front door were our dog crates. We've always crated them and we have nowhere else in the house to put these eyesores.

After. We have decided to put Jason's fish tank here (we bought our first fish this past Sunday, you can see him in the upper right corner of the tank) and the dog crates are now in the garage. The dogs are being put in our 2nd bathroom while we're away. This arrangement works better for everybody! Again, need something for the wall above the tank. Also, new lighting.

Before. The mantel wasn't a very pretty showplace and was cluttered with cards from Mother's Day and Jason's birthday.

After. I have discovered Home Goods! How have I NOT heard of this place before? I feel like I've been deprived for most of my adult life. I bought a few things from Home Goods and shopped the house for the rest. (I have also become that freaky Mom who walks around Home Goods with a camera taking pictures of things she likes... Yep...)

The picture was hanging in our breakfast room, the green vase Jason bought me for our 5 year Anniversary, the shell was in the guest bath and the white jars (I bought 2, one on the other side) were on clearance at HG for $2.00 a piece!

The starfish were hanging around in the guest bath and I cut the plants from our backyard and put them in the dark blue vase.

And finally I took the vase of seashells from the guest bath and bought the cute green candle holder at HG for $4.00. Presto, we have a rejuvenated mantel!

As you can see, I have a ways to go. We need a new ceiling fan, new lighting, new tables and a rug. All in good time! This room is all ready 1,000 times better than it was before!

I leave you with a picture of my beautiful boy! I'll be posting about our trip home soon. :)

To Gram's House We Go...

Well, I'm still in Ohio. Hence the lack of posting. Our trip has been wonderfully busy and chaotic. Yes, I'm exhausted and Aidan is definitely starting to struggle due to lack of any type of schedule. But, it's nice to be home. Jason left this morning to head back to Texas and Aidan and I will be returning this coming Saturday morning.

I'm excited to spend this last week primarily with my family (parents, especially) since we have spent the majority of the time visiting with Jason's wonderful family! :) It's so hard to juggle things around to fit everybody in when we come home. We want to see everybody, but it's not always easy to plan.

We've taken lots of pictures and video, including Aidan's first time in a swimming pool! So, I'll have a lot to post about when I return from Ohio.

A relaxing weekend- finally!

This past weekend was wonderful. Our friends Erin and Amanda came down from Dallas on Friday evening for a few days. Unfortunately they experienced some awful car trouble that included a blown out tire, a dead battery and a torrential downpour. Yuck! The 4-hour drive turned into an over 6 1/2- hour drive for our friends. And to top if off, Amanda is 8 months pregnant! But, they finally arrived at our house late Friday evening. Safe, sound, and needless to say, exhausted.

We spend our weekend relaxing, catching up and smoking a lot of meat.

Saturday morning Amanda and I went to a baby wearing class while the boys went to get the car situation taken care of. The class was wonderful. It was held at a local store here in Houston called Nurtured Family. The owners also design slings and I ended up purchasing one of them, called a Hava sling. I LOVE it! The sling I originally bought for Aidan had little padding and would give me some severe back pain after only wearing it a short while. My new sling has just the right amount of padding, is user friendly and is very comfortable for Aidan. Amanda bought the same sling and she's excited to try it out on her little boy once he's born.

Saturday evening we feasted on smoked chicken, boudin, corn on the cob and potato salad. In case you haven't heard of boudin (and chances are, you haven't!) it's a southern Louisiana specialty. Wikipedia describes it as, "A white sausage made of pork without the blood. Pork liver and heart meat are typically included. In Cajun versions, the sausage is made from a pork rice dressing, (much like dirty rice) which is stuffed into pork casings." Sounds kinda gross, but it's awesome! Jason travels to Louisiana about once a month and brought home 5 pounds of frozen boudin with him last time. It's a great treat and something I'd never be able to make myself.

Sunday the boys smoked chicken wings and ribs while Amanda and I played with Aidan. Later on we went for a walk and then enjoyed a visit with my friend Andrea, her husband and her baby boy, Alonso. Aidan and Alonso are "friends" and it's so cute to see them interact together. Aidan is very interested in Alonso and wants to touch him and be close to him. Alonso on the other hand, is not always so sure of Aidan's intentions! Jason had never seen the two of them together and it was a lot of fun to watch them.

That evening we headed out to a local Mexican restaurant for dinner. On the way home we were surrounded by fireworks in every direction. We were a little worried about the state of panic and fear Flippy would be in when we got home. If you've read this post, then you know what I'm talking about. Poor little guy was scared to death. It also didn't help that our neighbors set off fireworks into the wee morning house and really messed up Aidan's sleep. He woke up FOUR times last night, which hasn't happened in a LONG time. My little man was a crabby camper today as a result.

Our friends left this morning and I spent the day running errands and preparing for our trip back to Ohio. This evening we took our friends Eric and Holly out to dinner. Holly has accepted a contract job as a claims adjusted up in Minnesota and they are leaving this Friday. They'll be gone for 3 1/2 months and we'll miss them terribly. They are our closest friends down here and it will be hard not to have them around.

On a happier note, I can't believe we leave in a day! I'm excited to see our family and friends, although I know it's going to be an exhausting trip. We're squeezing so much into a small period of time. I guess that's what happens when you only get to go home a few times a year.

Time to get some sleep before a crazy day tomorrow! Story time, errands, packing and checking of my lists!
