Dishing It- Summer Style

Photobucket

One of my favorite bloggers, Amanda @ Serenity Now, is hosting her monthly "Dishing It" Party. This month her questions focus on this summer. If you'd like to play along, head on over to her blog.

I can't believe that it's all ready August! The summer is winding down, although the heat here in Houston is starting to wind up. There have been heat advisories for the last 7 days in a row. It's unbearably hot, so Aidan and I have been staying indoors. I'm hoping it'll cool off next month so that we can go on our daily walks outside, instead of only going once a week inside at a local mall!

Now, onto the questions....

~Best activity you participated in this summer.
Going to Cedar Point. (Voted best amusement park in the world for the past 14 years... thankyouverymuch!) I haven't been to the park in 3 years, so it was great to go with some family while I was home! Even my Dad tagged along, although he chose to ride amusements that were a bit easier on the body! It was just as awesome as ever and I hope to go again next year! I love amusement parks and really miss the smaller ones that I grew up with. They are definitely more plentiful up North than down here in Texas.
~Did your family go on any trips this summer? Which was your favorite?
Why yes we did. Aidan and I were lucky enough to get back to Ohio twice this summer. Jason was able to come with us the second time around. I love visiting our family and friends back home, but next summer I am crossing my fingers that we can go on a REAL vacation. My family is talking about renting a big beach house in the Outer Banks of North Carolina in June, so hopefully that'll pan out. If not, Jason and I may take Aidan somewhere for a little family vacation of our own.
~Best new recipe you tried.
Oooh... I try new recipes ALL of the time. But, one of my favorites was from The Pioneer Woman. Who else? I am obsessed with her and DESPERATELY want to purchase her cookbook! One of these days when we have a little extra cash flow I'll probably have to treat myself to a coffee at Barnes and Noble and go pick up that book. Oh yea.. the recipe that I wanted to share was The Pioneer Woman's Spicy Mac and Cheese. I wanted to eat the WHOLE thing by myself. Darn Jason and wanting to eat dinner... Ha ha! Perhaps I'll whip up a batch for myself one day while he's traveling... Muah ha ha!
~Most exciting thing you've done this summer.
Watching Aidan grow. Perhaps not exciting to everybody, but to a new Mother it's amazing! At the beginning of May he was only 3 months old. Now he's 6 months. Those three little months make a world of difference. He went from laying on his back to rolling over, to sitting up on his own! I'm gonna cheat and list another thing. We have joined a Mommy and Me group that is awesome! I really love the women and children we have met and am excited to get to know them better throughout the coming year!
~Coolest crafty thing you made or home decor thing you tried.
I rearranged my living room and have bought some super cute things from Home Goods!
~Best book or magazine issue you read.
Oooh.. I am always looking forward to getting my monthly Family Circle, Coastal Living and Southern Living magazines in the mail. I love trying the recipes in them! The best book I've read, and probably one of the only I've read this summer (actually I reread it), was "Have a Little Faith" by Mitch Albom. Phenomenal. I've been meaning to write a post on it, but I haven't had the time to sit down and really think about how I want to tackle it.
~Coolest new (to you) blog you've found.
Hands down, The Nester. How did I never know about this wonderful woman? I love her style and hope to one day be as good a thrifter as she is. Teach me, oh Nester!
~Favorite bargain or shopping find of the summer. In general, discovering Home Goods! I am also checking out a HUGE consignment sale at the end of this month which I am really excited about. I'm not looking for anything particular, but I'm interested to see what good bargains I can find!
~Your best post of the summer was...?

Probably this one. I really need to stay true to it and continue to balance out my life some more!
~What's left on your summer to-do list?
Decorate my home. (Ha ha, more like a year to-do list!) Read a book. Any book. Well, not a children's book! I read those everyday... Get a massage. Start attending workout classes regularly at the gym. I think that's all..

Okay, well thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed reading about my summer thus far!

  2. Emily! Nice to meet you! I also am a transplant to big ol' hot Texas. It was nice to read about a new mommy and remember how it felt back then when I just had one and everything was something new. Bless your little man!

I was so happy to read that you joined a Mommy and me group. I was in a Mom's Club, and it was the best thing ever for me and the kids. I hope you enjoy your group as much as I enjoyed mine!
