Music Lessons

One of Aidan's favorite things to do with his Daddy is play the guitar. Now, I should add that they are both at about the same level....

I bought Jason the guitar about a year ago, but we've been pretty busy (Ya know, having a baby and all...), so he hasn't really had time to learn how to use it. He can play some chords and also "twinkle, twinkle little star", but that's about it.

I don't really think that matters to Aidan though. He gets so excited when Daddy brings out the guitar!

I love my boys! :)

Now go and enjoy your weekend. That's an order!

Baby woodchuck

It seems that we have a woodchuck in the house. And boy is he doing some serious damage.

The culprit?

Yep. That cute little guy is really a monster woodchuck in disguise. I don't know why he does it, but he enjoys CHEWING on his crib rails. And he doesn't just chew on them, he is slowly destroying them!

Remember the rhyme, "How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"

Well, in this house we've changed it to: "How much crib can a baby chew if a baby could chew cribs."

Sadly, I don't yet know the answer to that rhyme. He may eat the whole thing. One morning I could walk into the room and find his mattress sitting on the floor surrounded by wood shavings.

We've bought a few different crib rail covers, but they're pretty flimsy and won't stay on long. He has a tough grip and can virtually pull anything off that we try to keep down. Nothing can get between our boy and his wood!

The side he devours most is the side by his bedroom door. The other side of the crib is virtually untouched. I guess it's what he does when he wakes up from naps or after his night's sleep. He doesn't make a lot of noise when is awake, so my guess is that he's in there getting his fix. Ya know, chomping away.

At first it was funny because he only had two bottom teeth, so there were just little marks. It was kinda cute in a, "Awww... poor baby only has two teeth and really wants to chew something."

But, now that he has two top teeth as well, let's just say it's not so cute anymore.

So, the damage?

Not good, people. Not good!

I'll leave you with one our favorite commercials. Perhaps these are Aidan's long lost relatives? Who knows? (And what is it with me and commercials lately?!)

The man cold

Have you seen the Dayquil commercial advertising Dayquil's power to conquer even the "most horrible man cold?"

I about peed my pants the first time I saw it. And, it's about time that this was broadcast for all the world, particularly the men, to see.

Because, yes, it's true. Men are BABIES when they get sick.

What is it about a cough, some sniffles and a low-grade fever that gets even the most manliest of men lying on the couch in the fetal position moaning as if they're going to die?

Did their mothers coddle them too much when they were children? Can they really not handle the pain? Or does any type of sickness automatically put them in "baby mode", expecting the nearest woman to take care of them?

I think every man that I know, from my father to (I'm sad to say it) Jason gets this way when they are sick. Now sometimes, I can understand why they get this way. Jason had a miserable 24 hour stomach flu a few days ago. He spent about 6 hours on and off with his friend the toilet. He took the day off of work and spent it on the couch. All he really wanted was to sleep, some gatorade and a little bit of applesauce.

But, what I don't get is how men act when they are not that sick. Take for instance, when they have a cold. And act like getting up to change the channel is more difficult that constructing the Hoover Dam. And whining that you are not paying enough attention to them. They expect the world to stop!

I guess what irks me the most is that I am not at all like this when I'm sick. I want to be left alone. Oh, and I'm angry. I'm usually angry because sickness not only makes me feel like crap, it keeps me from getting the thousands of things done that need to be done. It's frustrating.

Also, I've pushed out a kid. No man has done that. And I can guarantee, that no matter how bad your cold is, it's not nearly as bad as going through 18 hours of labor and then ending up with an episiotomy/c-section/stitches/vaginal swelling/hemorrhoids afterwards. Okay?

So, if you're a man in my life and you're reading this... don't take offense. I love you. Just not when you're sick and acting like a teething infant.

Suck it up.

And now I leave you with the Dayquil commercial.

WILW- 1/26/10

I am loving my new Droid. I know that I said previously I was a bit scared of this new technology, but it's wonderful! Being able to check email, read blogs, message friends quickly, take pictures AND video of Aidan and play FREE Sudoku (I'm kind of obsessed...)! Boy was I missing out!

I am loving that the weather is finally getting warmer. I am definitely a spoiled Texas girl, but it has been in the 40s and 50s the past few weeks. Today the sun was shining and the temps actually hit the 60s. It's supposed to be in the 70s for the rest of the week and I couldn't be happier!

I am loving that my sweet cat, whose name is Kitty (Okay, side note: His name is actually Starr Kitty Templeton, but he only answers to Kitty. Oh those stubborn felines!), has been super affectionate and cuddly with me lately. He wants to sit on my lap, rub his head on me and just be near me. It makes me a very happy Mama. :)

I am loving that Aidan is walking so well. It literally seemed to just happen over night. He can also stand up on his own now, so he is EVERYWHERE. Today we walked to the mailbox (3 houses down from ours). It took 20 minutes, but was so wonderful to see how excited he was that he could do it on his own!

I am loving that Jason is feeling better. He had some icky 24 hour stomach flu the last two days and it was horrible. I felt so incredibly bad for him. He seems to be getting back to his old self. And I am praying that Aidan and I don't get it. That's the last thing we need!

I am loving that Charlie Brown received a clean bill of health today at the Vet. He is going to be 5 years old in May, and the regular lifespan is a boxer is usually 7-9 years old. I love our big boy so much and am glad that he is healthy.

My Friday afternoon

1:00 pm: Aidan wakes up from his nap

1:03 pm: Try to hold down wiggling, jumping, giggling, squirmy baby as I attempt to change his dirty diaper.

1:04 pm: Baby puts foot in dirty diaper. Lovely.

1:10 pm: Give baby medicine 20 minutes before he can eat

1:12 pm: Unload dishwasher with "help" of baby. Grab butter knife out of baby's hands no less than 26 times.

1:30 pm: Put baby in highchair for lunch.

1:35 pm: Baby spits applesauce all over me when I make him laugh. (Probably not a good idea to make him laugh with food in his mouth. Rookie mistake, and a rookie I am not.)

1:45 pm: Baby signals end of lunchtime by dumping bowl of cheerios all over floor, then proudly holding empty bowl above his head. Victory!

1:50- 2:30 pm: Nonstop playtime with baby. Where does all this energy come from?! Mommy feels like walking dead and desperately needs a nap. And to fold laundry. And some lunch. And a pedicure, come to think of it.

2:31-2:35 pm: Mama smells a dirty diaper. Chases baby around the house, since baby can now walk, in an attempt to catch baby and change smelly diaper.

2:36 pm: Baby spits up on himself once Mama finally catches him. Now Mama must change dirty clothes and dirty diaper. Bliss.

2:37- 2:50 pm: Mama tries to control wiggly, squirmy, laughing, silly baby as she changes dirty diaper and wrangles dirty clothes off of his body.

2:51- 3:18 pm: Baby plays like a crazy boy, throwing toys, putting everything in his mouth, laughing, screaming and having a generally wonderful time.

3:19 pm: All of a sudden baby is displaying those wonderful signs that he is tired; rubbing eyes, laying head on Mama's shoulder and yawning. Mama is ecstatic!

3:20 pm: Breastfeed baby before naptime.

3:30 pm: Baby appears to be ready for bed.

3:31 pm: Lay baby in crib.

3:31 and 30 seconds: Baby screams bloody murder in crib because he does not want to take a nap even though he is extremely tired and is falling over while he attempts to walk, rubs eyes and is exhibiting all other signs that he is sleepy.

3:32- 3:45 pm: Mama lets baby scream. Maybe he'll get tired.

3:46 pm: Get baby out of crib. Baby's head instantly lays on Mama's shoulder and he is quiet. Mama sings songs, rubs his back and walks him around the room.

3:55 pm: Lays baby back in crib.

3:55 and 30 seconds: Baby screams bloody murder. Mama considers making herself a cocktail. It's 5 o'clock somewhere, right?

4:00 pm: Mama goes back in to calm soothing baby. Repeats same steps in time frame 3:46 pm.

4:10 pm: Mama lays baby back down again.

4:10 and 30 seconds: Baby screams bloody murder. Mama gives in and let's baby come out of room to play.

4:15 pm: Mama goes to change out laundry while baby plays in living room. Baby is suddenly quiet. Mama goes out to investigate.

4:16 pm: Mama finds baby standing over dog dish, hands and mouth full of dog food. Baby smiles up at Mama and offers her a handful. Yum, yum. Mama has to smile at baby, even though she is disgusted. What is it about dog food? Seriously.

4:17 pm: Wipe off baby and fish dog food out of his mouth. Somehow there were 4 BIG pieces crammed into one tiny little mouth. Amazing.

4:18- 4:32 pm: Mama folds laundry with baby's assistance. This consists of baby walking off with underwear, socks and various other clothing articles while Mama tries to fold things and put them out of baby's reach as soon as possible. A 5 minute task suddenly turns into a 15 minute one.

4:33- 5:00 pm: Playtime commences again. Baby wants Mama to read to him. She chooses one of baby's favorite books, "Eight Silly Monkeys". Mama reads baby the book while he pulls on it, crawls around the room and then comes back and tries to kiss it. Baby signs "more" atleast 10 times and Mama obliges. She is sick of that book. Really sick of it.

5:00 pm: Daddy comes home.

5:01 pm: Mama takes a nap.

The End.

I am happy to report that this afternoon is going much better than Friday's. I really needed the whole weekend to recover. Seriously.

Aidan and I had a nice lunch together at Panera followed by some browsing at Home Goods. He is now babbling himself to sleep in his crib and I am about to attempt to take down my Christmas decorations.

Yes, you read that correctly. Oh well... nobody's perfect, right?'

Ooh and be sure to check back tomorrow for my first ever giveaway courtesy of CSN Stores. :)

Aidan's First Christmas

So, I realize that this post is a bit delayed. Okay, really delayed. But I still wanted to share Aidan's first Christmas with you anyway, even though it's mid-January.

I mentioned the other day that I've had a "case of the Mondays" ever since we got back, which is why I haven't posted anything about our Christmas yet. So, since this was\s Aidan's first Christmas, and we visited a lot of family... I think I'll just put in a plethora of pictures instead of lots of words.

Enjoy!

We spent Christmas Eve with Nana and Papa (Jason's parents).

We had a delicious Christmas dinner prepared by Nana and Aidan enjoyed eating. He sampled pretty much everything but the turkey.

Then it was on to the presents....

Uncle Andrew came up from Florida to surprise Nana and Papa for Christmas. He was only able to stay a day and a half, but it was so great to see him!

Christmas morning we headed over to Gram and Grandpa D's house (my family). It was CRAZY as usual, with about 20 of us crammed into a room around the tree.

With electric sex gleaming in the window, of course!

Gram, Aunt Nana, Uncle Steve and I all made everybody a HUGE Christmas breakfast before we opened presents.

Aidan was pretty tired after opening only a few of his presents, so Daddy laid him down for a nap.

It's a good thing because Aunt Emily and Uncle Denny had a surprise for everybody....

Marshmallow blaster fight!!

Let me just tell you that this lasted almost an hour with everybody from my mother to my 3 year-old niece joining in on the action. All of the grown men in the room were transformed into little boys within seconds of opening up those blasters! It was hilarious! (And yes, that is Jason hiding behind the couch.... Ha ha!)

We left around 3pm and headed down to Jason's grandparents house for the remainder of the day. His Grandma is a wonderful cook and made a terrific Christmas feast! After that it was time for more presents.

Aidan was the only kiddo there, but he had a great time playing with his new toys!

It was a long day for everybody, but especially for the little man. He did very well overall and was ready for bed by 8pm. I'm so glad that we were able to celebrate his first Christmas with all of our families!
