Grill masters and pretty lights

If you know Jason and I, then you'll know that we love to grill out whenever we can. When we lived up North we would even grill in the winter. In our garage. With winter coats on. Yea, we're that extreme!

For Christmas this year Jason's parents even bought him this shirt because he is a man who really loves his grill.

A few nights ago Jason thought it was time that Aidan become his grill apprentice.

Much to Jason's chagrin, Aidan was much more interested in these super cool lights I recently bought on clearance at Tar-jay.

Aren't they pretty? Now my two grill masters can grill by the glow of colorful lights! I'm looking for another set to put on the opposite side of our patio. I love these things!

One cool dude

I used to be so drawn to little girls clothes. Oh, who am I kidding? I still AM drawn to little girls clothes. But, since I have a boy, I have to let my fantasies of flowered headbands, babylegs and ruffle bottomed cover ups lay silent in my heart.

I have, however, become quite a fan of little boys clothes. You can really dress your little guy in some cool stuff these days. Aidan is the 3rd boy cousin, so we have received quite a few hand-me-downs from my sisters. They seem to be drawn to things with animals and more babyish designs. I, on the other hand, love to dress Aidan like he is a little boy, not a baby. Luckily, I have a fantastic friend who has given me most of her sons old clothes, as well. And man oh man did she dress that little guy.

I absolutely love the clothes we have received from her. It's so fun to dress Aidan every morning!

His outfit of choice for yesterday?

Yes that IS a Run DMC t-shirt. And yes those ARE camoflouged crocs for tiny feet.
How cool is my little dude?

WILW- 2/23/11

It seems as though I've been posting in cycles lately. Three posts in a row, and then nothing for a week. I'm trying to get better... it's just that this fantastic weather keeps Aidan and I outside all day! Then in the evening I've been taking it easy instead of hopping onto the old blog to fill you all in.

So, I guess I can start filling you in by telling ya'll what I'm loving this week...

* I am loving this weather! (Sorry to my friends up North getting pounded with snow. Maybe it's time you flew South permanently?) We have had temps in the 70s and 80s for the past two weeks. Aidan and I have been taking advantage and have been to the park almost every single day! We've also been grilling and smoking some awesome food for dinner. We smoked some ribs over the weekend and grilled out some yummy steaks yesterday! I'm hoping Mother Nature keeps us Texans in these warm temps and sunny skies for awhile. :)

* I am loving all of the concerts that I will be attending in the next few months. In March I am going to see the Zac Brown Band at the Houston Rodeo with some girlfriends. In May my brother and his wife are flying down to see Jimmy Buffet with us. And finally in June I am headed to see New Kids on the Block with some girlfriends. I can't wait!

* I am loving that my sister and her husband booked tickets to fly down to see us over Easter. They came last Easter and we had such a good time! We made an unconventional Easter dinner (steaks, calico beans, salad, corn on the cob, etc.) and it was delicious! We always have such a great time when the come to visit.

* I am loving that Aidan can run now. It's hilarious to see his little legs work so quickly. For awhile he kept falling, but now he seems to have a pretty good handle on this new found skill.

* I am loving the girl scout cookies that I bought outside of Kroger last week. I bought their new Lemonade cookies and they are delish! I bought a box of thin mints for Jason and they were gone in 2 days. That man can sure down him some cookies!

* I am loving that my Grandma had such a terrific birthday this year. She turned 88 yesterday. I called her to wish her a wonderful day and just by the sound of her voice I knew that she was really happy. She received cards, chocolates, 4 bouquets of flowers and letters from all of us that love her. I often worry about her since her little dog, and only companion, died a few months ago. I know she has been very lonely, so I'm glad that her birthday cheered her up immensely.

What are you loving this week?

Inspiration

I have quite a few friends (bloggy and in real life) that are currently on weight loss journeys. From experience I know that it can be tiring, painful, disappointing and relentless. Here is a little video to give you all inspiration as you continue on your journeys to a thinner, healthier, more beautiful you!

If he can do it, so can you ladies!

I love you all!

Party, party, party!

On Saturday we threw Aidan a birthday party. We decided to rent out our neighborhood's community center for the event, rather than try to accommodate almost 30 people in our tiny house. It worked out wonderfully and the party was a hit!

We had a Backyardigans theme, since it is Aidan's favorite T.V. show. My friend Tonya even had a special shirt made for Aidan for the occasion. Isn't it adorable?

Since the kids that attended the party (there were 9 altogether, including Aidan) were so young, we didn't have any party games. Instead I just brought over a bunch of Aidan's toys for them to play with. That seemed to suit everybody just fine! The weather was absolutely beautiful, so the kids were also able to play on the playground that was right behind the community center.

After everyone at all of the delicious food, it was time for Aidan to try his first cupcake!

He wasn't so keen on the cupcake itself, but had a great time eating the all of the icing! He made quite a mess in the process!

Afterward we had to clean him off in the sink. And change his cute little shirt. It was covered in blue icing!

Then it was time to open presents. Aidan received so many wonderful gifts from his friends. A variety of books, clothes, shoes, toys and even a Pablo toy that my friend Jamie crocheted for him! I think his favorite was a set of balls from our friend Rhea. Aidan loves to play with Daddy's big football, now he has one his own size!
After presents we spent some more time outside. We couldn't have asked for better weather!

Soon, Aidan started getting pretty sleepy. His friends began saying their goodbyes and our little man needed to rest on Daddy for a bit. He also got some lovin' from Aunt Ebeth who came all the way from Ohio to spend his first birthday with him!

Aidan's first birthday party was a blast! He had a great time and I know all of our guests did as well. But, boy was it a lot of work! I never knew I could be so exhausted after a one year old's birthday party!

Below is a video of pictures that our friend Jason took of the party. There are a lot of great ones in there. It's about 4 minutes long, so if you don't want  to watch it won't hurt my feelings. Trust me! (the password is backyardigans)

My Big Boy

Last Tuesday, February 8th, my little man turned ONE! It is so incredibly hard to imagine. Where has the time gone? If seems like just yesterday I was holding my innocent, newborn babe in my arms. Now he is a wiggly, walking, babbling, wild little boy!

Aidan has grown by leaps and bounds in his one year of life. It's remarkable what children can learn in such a short time. He is a full-blown walker now and almost never crawls.

He adores his Daddy and gives him a hug everyday before he leaves for work and when he comes home in the evening. He also loves playing, swimming and initiating games of hide and seek with Mama during the day. He is still fixated with the dishwasher and loves to "help" me load/unload and close the door.

I stopped breastfeeding him about three weeks ago (we'll save this post for another day). It was very hard on me, but the little guy doesn't seem to miss it at all. He now drinks whole milk out of a cup and is extremely proud of himself when he can do it on his own. We have a new nightly routine that consists of a glass of warm milk, watching Baby Einstein and snuggling up with Mama. He has taken to this greatly and loves his nighttime TV show.

Aidan has made so many wonderful little friends over the past year. We spent his actual birthday at one of their houses have a little playdate. He had so much fun playing with them!

Over the weekend Daddy put up Aidan's swing that he received from Aunt Ebeth and Uncle Aaron for Christmas. We now go out a few times everyday to swing! He is in heaven. It'll be fun to put up an actual swingset for him in a few years when he is old enough to play on it. :)

And lastly, Aidan has started doing the funniest thing. We are not sure when it happened (I guess in the last two weeks or so), but he now does a "special smile" and says "EEEEEE!" when we take his picture. We have always said, "Aidan say cheese!" and now he does! It is hysterical! Here are some of his "cheese" faces:

Happy Birthday, baby Aidan! :)
