Downtown Fun

On Monday Aidan and I met some friends at one of the many parks in downtown Houston. This particular park we have been to many, MANY times, simply because the Zoo is located right in the center of it. Until now though, we had never explored any other areas of it. We got there a little early and walked around by ourselves so that I could snap some photos.

I enjoyed the beautiful scenery that surrounded us.

While Aidan was more interested in the little train that takes you all around the park.

And the ducks. That boy LOVED the ducks!

Once our friends arrived we headed to our destination, the Japanese Gardens. I had heard they were beautiful and was anxious to get a look. And I'm happy to say that we weren't disappointed!

The garden was virtually empty, which made it more enjoyable for us. I really loved all of the water features and tiny bridges scattered across the area. This is somewhere I would love to visit again, and hopefully take Jason to.

After we left the garden it was a short walk to a nearby playground. We figured it would be a good idea to let the little ones let off some steam before we headed to a local Thai restaurant for lunch.

This was one of the best playgrounds we have ever been to! Most of the playgrounds in the area are for kids ages 5-12. This park had one of those, and then in the distance we saw another playground that looked smaller. We headed over to it and were delighted that had a sign saying it was for ages 3-5. Then we saw this little gem.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Toddlertown! Designed specifically for ages 6 months- 3 years! Never before have I seen a playground made just for the little guys. Our kiddos were in heaven!
Everything was just their size! And they knew it. They had such a wonderful time playing on equipment and as a mother, my mind was eased immensely. Usually taking Aidan to the playground can be pretty stressful. All of the structures are so high and I'm constantly following him around afraid he is going to fall five feet to his death. It was wonderful to know he was safe on this equipment.
We had a great time in the city with our friends and hope to go back to our new favorite downtown spot soon!

  1. Love Toddler Town. I wish we had one of those around here. Cate is just now getting comfortable enough at the park that she'll play without Mommy or Daddy nearby. She used to get scared of the big playground and the big kids.

  2. All of it looks wonderful, especially Toddlertown! :) I can't wait to take N to the park this spring/summer. Wish we could do it in Houston!

I'd love to know what you thought of this post! Leave your comments here. Thanks for visiting! :)
