Aidan's room

With the impending arrival of our newest troublemaker, we've decided to do some rearranging. Aidan's nursery (which I will post pictures of soon, since I never posted the final product) will easily transition into the baby's room. I'm glad that I had decided on a gender neutral theme (Beatrix Potter) so that it would work for either a boy or a girl.

Aidan's wonderful playroom will now become his bedroom and playroom in one! I've spent quite a bit of time deciding on how we were going to make this transition easy for everybody. At first I was set on putting the little guy in a twin bed, but have since changed my mind and have decided he will be going into a toddler bed instead. Aidan will be about 22 months old when we move the baby from the bassinet in our room to the crib in the nursery. We kept him in our room for 3 months and plan on doing the same for our new little one.

I like the toddler beds because they are smaller (they actually use crib mattresses) and are lower to the ground. I'm hoping that if we start the transition early (maybe even before the baby is born) it will give him enough time to get used to his new bed. Most pediatricians recommend keeping toddlers in cribs until they are atleast 2, so Aidan will be a bit ahead of the curve on this one. Hopefully it won't be too much of a problem.

I've also been thinking more about how to decorate his big boy room! I've made an inspiration board of what I think I'd like to do. Some of these things are ideas that I will end up DIYing myself (such as the lamp base) and others I know that I will be purchasing. (I am in LOVE with that bedding!)

As for wall art, I'm still up in the air. I know I want to hang up shelves and decorate them with some stuffed animals, pictures, etc. And once he is a bit older I'll also paint and frame a chalkboard for him to draw on. I'm not sure yet what type of pictures we'll be hanging up. I've taken some great ones of animals at the zoo that I'm contemplating blowing up and framing. Or I may go with some cutesy ones that I find at an etsy shop. Time will tell.

Right now the dollar spot at Target has a good selection of cute stuffed jungle animals for $2.50 a piece. I plan on stopping in and picking up a variety that I can use in his room. I'm hoping that Aidan will still like the jungle theme as he gets older so that we won't have to change it out in a few years when he becomes obsessed with Toy Story, Cars or whatever new Disner/Pixar film has swept the nation at the time.

What do you think? Will my little man love his new room? Any thoughts or advice, Mommas, on transitioning him to a toddler bed?

  1. What fun! Congrats on expecting your second child! I love the jungle theme, it's so cute. My advice re; the decorating would be to keep the theme related items easy to change (i.e.; not painting a mural on the wall or something like that) so when he does change his mind, you'll be able to change it up easily. With that said, I think the jungle theme could easily last until he's at least 5. :)

Thanks so much for your sweet comment on my Easter mantel!
