DIY Napkin Pillowcases

A few months ago I found these cute double-sided napkins on clearance at Target.

And for only $2.78 apiece? Score!

My first thought was, I love these. And they're cheap. Therefore, the must go in my cart. But, what was I going to do with them? Jason and I aren't fancy enough to use cloth napkins everyday. Then, I got to thinking... these would make some pretty awesome pillows. I loved the idea of having a fresh pop of coral in my living room decor.

At home I ran into a bit of a predicament. Our living room isn't very large, and I didn't want it to be overrun by pillows. (I kind of love them!) If your furniture is full of pillows, where does one sit?

I was a bit tired of these blue pillows that I sewed last year, so I decided they would be replaced.

I simply used my seam ripper to open up one side of the old pillowcases. (I'm cheap and didn't want to go out and buy new pillow forms!)

Then, I used it again to rip open one side of the napkins, so that I could fit the pillows inside.

All it took was one rerun of Ellen to handstitch the new pillows back up.

What do you think?

And a few more pictures, just because I am loving how brighten up my living room!

I am definitely liking the coral mixed in with my blues, greens, and yellows. I'll have to be on the lookout for a few more accessories in this fun color. Or else, whip out a can of Krylon on an unsuspecting tchotchke from Goodwill.

Happy Monday,
