This year, I decided to "decorate" my mantel for Valentine's Day. I'm usually not into decorating for the smaller holidays, like VDay and St. Patty's Day, but this year I decided to give it a go. :)
I didn't want to spend very much on decorations that won't even be up for a month, so I shopped the house for everything you see, except for a few items that I made with minimal cost! I love a good money saving challenge. :)
I made the printable in picmonkey, printed it off and put it in a frame I all ready had. The candlesticks (snagged at Goodwill last year for $1 apiece) were originally brown, so I spray painted them Krylon meringue to match our décor better. I added little birds nest on top of them. Since, they're cute and well, I love birds!
Little ceramic love birds are in front of the sweetheart printable. Perhaps those are their eggs in the nests?
I love this little green vase. I think it's from Home Goods. The "N" is from Hobby Lobby, which I spray painted awhile back in Krylon's peekaboo blue.
You can go here to see how I made the simple doily garland, which cost only $2 to make. Even the non-craftiest person in the world can handle that one! The larger picture with the houses and birds was created by Studio DiStefano. I love their work and often pick up a piece or two when I see them at art shows. The "Be Mine" clothesline sign is the only other item I made specifically for Valentine's Day this year. I all ready had all of the supplies on hand, so it was a freebie!
I love that our mantel is non-traditional. Instead of all pinks and red, I incorporated the colors of our homes palette: soft yellows, bright blues and cheery greens. The red incorporated nicely into that existing palette. The best part? Once Valentine's Day is over, I can simply remove the pieces I created for it, and I will still have a bright and colorful mantel!
Thanks for stopping by! :)
