DIY Tulip Wreath {Welcome Spring!}

Last week the cold snap that has consumed Northeast Ohio finally snapped! Temperatures were in the forties and on Friday the thermometer even jumped above 50 for a few hours! It is amazing. The birds are singing their joy, the snow is melting into a million little puddles and the sun is shining in all of her beautiful Springtime glory. So, to celebrate the end of this eternal winter, I decided a new wreath for the front door was in order!

I have seen tulip wreaths popping up all over Etsy, so that's what I decided to make. This wreath was SO easy to create. Seriously, it took me about half an hour.

To get started you'll need:
A grapevine wreath (mine was 18 inches)
Bunches of mini tulips (found mine at Michaels)
Hot Glue Gun
Burlap Ribbon (optional)

I chose a variety of colors for my tulips: 2 yellow bunches, 1 white bunch, 1 purple bunch and 2 different colored pink bunches. I love how customizable this wreath is! You can make it any color you'd like. :)

Start by cutting the tulips off of the bunches, leaving the stems long. Then simply start placing them around the wreath, spacing them out as needed so that there's a bit of a flow to the design. Next, simply tuck your tulips into the wreath. Feel free to add a big of hot glue to the stems to ensure they stay snugly in place. Then just keep adding tulip stems until the wreath is full. I left a blank spot so that I could add a burlap ribbon to my wreath, but that's not necessary. (Also, grapevine wreaths are MESSY, so I advise doing this project at a larger table, so that you don't make a mess on the floor.)

Hang your lovely creation on the door and welcome in Spring! Can you see the snow in this picture? It's not even fazing me.. because I know it's FINALLY going away! Huzzah!

Happy Spring, my friends!

Aidan {Our Big 5 Year Old!}

Five years have, indeed, flown by! My little man is no longer a toddler or preschooler, he's a BIG BOY!

Last month, our oldest son had a birthday. And I'm still in denial about the fact that he's FIVE! I, unfortunately, did not do an update for his fourth birthday, but I was determined to do one for his fifth! I sat him down and asked him some questions about a few of his favorite things and here's what he had to say:

1. Favorite Movie: Homeward Bound and The Muppets
2. Favorite Color: Purple!
3. Favorite Song: Wagon Wheel by Darius Rucker
4. Favorite TV Show: Octonauts- he is totally obsessed!
5. Favorite Toy: Cardboard Building Blocks
6. Favorite "Lovey": His big monkey named, well, "Big Monkey"- creative, I know.
7. Favorite animal at the Zoo: Giraffes and all kinds of other animals, too.
8. Favorite Pet: Flippy and Kitty (our cat and dog), but he does not like it when Flippy is stinky.
9. Favorite Sport: Baseball.
10. Favorite Book: The Berenstein Bears
11. Best Friend: Grace, Angel and Nolan and everybody at school!

A few things have remained the same (his favorite color and pet), while others have definitely changed (he prefers to listen to music on the radio and live action movies instead of cartoons)!

For his actual birthday, he only had a few requests:
1. To see a movie in the movie theatre
2. To eat at Olive Garden
3. And have his favorite cousin Tristan spend the day with him

Who were we to say no to such simple requests?! So, the day was planned. When he woke up, he headed downstairs to find the customary birthday balloons and gifts wrapped at his seat around the table. After opening presents, we headed to one of our favorite local breakfast spots to eat.

After that we met my parents and Tristan at the theater to see Paddington. The kids and adults alike simply loved this film... I highly recommend it!

Then, we went back to our house for a bit, where we were joined by all 4 of his grandparents to play and hang out before dinner. He received Mario Kart as one of his gifts (his first video game!) and had a blast playing it!

Finally, we finished off his big day at the Olive Garden. We brought along a special Spider Man cake for him, too! Our little guy was over the moon when he saw the twinkling candles coming his way!
It was definitely a wonderful day! Sometimes the simplest things mean the most and create the best memories. :)

In the past year, I feel that Aidan has really come into his own. While he's still my wild boy, so many other pieces of his personality have started to really stand out. He has a huge heart. My boy is always ready to help out when asked and he truly cares about other people and animals. Whenever his brother gets a "boo boo" Aidan is the first one there with a hug for him, making sure he's okay and bringing him his favorite stuffed animals to make him feel better.

He takes pride in helping his teachers at school. They rave about what a wonderful "helper" he is- from cleaning up the classroom, to passing out papers, putting away toys and helping the other kids calm down and listen. Speaking of school, he is excelling at his studies. Just like his Mama, he can't get enough of learning! Recently they have been learning about Egypt and he comes home everyday talking about the pyramids and the Nile River. His handwriting has improved tremendously and he can now write the whole alphabet (upper and lowercase) and is learning to read. We are so very proud of him. :)

Aidan has also developed quite the sense of humor! He has started making up his own knock knock jokes and I always hear him and Connor laughing about something silly. I believe one of his greatest joys in life is having a little sister. The bond that Aidan and Hayley share is truly amazing. Nobody can make her laugh like he can. He loves to read to her, play with her and I completely trust that he would do everything in his power to keep her safe. Seeing the love that my children have for each other is simply magical.

I absolutely love watching Aidan grow. My heart bursts with pride for him and the wonderful person he is growing up to be. :)

Happy birthday, buddy!

Realize Your Dreams- Handmade Shop Love

Friends, the day has come.

Something I've dreamed about since I started up my little handmade shop. A dream I've worked hard for. A dream, that's been waylaid and pushed aside because of pregnancies, caring for small children, moving and simply not enough time in the day, has finally become a reality!

via
As of this week, my items are being sold in a real brick and mortar shop!

While I love selling my crafts on Etsy, I've always really enjoyed the craft show scene more. But, it's hard for me to do more than a few a year. The craft show circuit is definitely a time consuming ordeal! The idea of selling in a store popped into my head over a year ago. I checked out a few local shops while we were living in Texas, but I was never able to find a perfect fit.

Fast forward to last month. The cutest, local boutique store was looking for more vendors. They loved the items in my shop and that was that. The Heart Ville Boutique is located in quaint, historic, downtown Hartville, Ohio. All of their goods are handmade by over 35 local artisans. There is seriously something for EVERYONE at this shop. I'm beyond excited to be a part of their team!

Here's just a little peak at a few of the things I have for sale right now....

If you're a local, be sure to stop on in! I guarantee you'll love this little piece of handmade heaven. :)

{Salvaged House Number} Shadow Box Art

Two summers ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Haven Conference. A few days before leaving, I had discovered that I was pregnant with our third child! I was over the moon excited with my little secret. :) While at the conference, I found this beautiful, gold house number that Southern Accents had salvaged from an old home that was being demolished. I immediately snagged it up and it's been kept safely in a drawer these last few years, just waiting to be used for something.

Yesterday, I finally found a home for my lucky number five! I absolutely love how this shadow box art turned out. And the best part is, it took me less than an hour to create! :)

The supplies I started off with included a shadow box Ribba frame from IKEA, two pieces of coordinating fabric that I had on hand and the house number. Other items I ended up using were tape, hot glue, scissors, embroidery thread and an embroidery needle.

I started by wrapping the mat inside of the frame with my yellow fabric. For whatever reason, the hot glue did not adhere the fabric well to the mat, so I ended up using scotch tape. And it worked! Score!

Next, I taped/glued the patterned fabric into the picture hole of the mat. The number looked rather plain inside, so I applied strips of the patterned fabric to the top of the yellow fabric with hot glue. Then I used embroidery thread to attach the number to the patterned fabric. Finally, I glued the mat to the cardboard piece that slides into the back of the frame. It stabilized the number really well.

And that, folks, was it! This was such a easy project and the end result is just gorgeous!

Right now, it's sitting pretty on an end table in our living room. But, once my gallery wall is finished, it will have a place of honor there instead. :)

Don't you just love easy, meaningful projects that can be created with items you all ready have in your home? I sure do!

The Past Twelve Months

It's been a little over a year since I've posted and so many exciting things have happened in our little corner of the world.... so I thought I'd fill you in on what's new in our lives. :)

February
Aidan turned FOUR! (And next month he'll be five... crazy!) We celebrated with a visit to the Museum of Natural History to see the dinosaurs and dinner at his favorite Greek restaurant. Then, over the weekend we had an impromptu gathering at the bowling alley with a few of his closest friends. He had a wonderful time!

March
My last month as a Mama of just two boys. The weather is gorgeous in Houston this time of year, so we spent a lot of time playing outside! This is also when my nesting kicked into full gear and I donated more bags that I can count of "stuff" to Goodwill and also purged our house of many unnecessary items! I was also able to start packing up things that I knew we wouldn't need before the move, which was a relief to do before the baby came.

April
Our sweet baby girl was born. Her arrival made our little family complete. Jason knew all along that she was going to be a girl, but I had my doubts. Aidan loved her immediately, but it took Connor quite some time to warm up to her. After all, he was the baby and didn't like her stealing his thunder. I never knew how much I wanted a baby girl until I was holding this little one in my arms. :)

May
Packing, packing, packing! So much to do and so little time with a new baby and two troublesome little boys to take care of! Also, there were a million people that we had to say "goodbye" to. On top of that, as soon as Hayley had her first round of shots, she and I flew up to Ohio for a whirlwind house hunting trip. My little girl is currently 9 months old and has all ready flown 4 separate times! We ended up making a bid on a house, but ended up pulling out of it in the end. It was also a gorgeous month in Texas, so we spent as much time as could outside!

June
At the end of the month, we finished packing up all of our belongings, had movers load everything into a truck and it was driven 1500 miles across the country to Ohio. Deciding to leave our new life and chosen "family" in Texas was an extremely hard decision for us. But, with Jason traveling more and more for work and with the addition of a third child we knew it was the right move for our family. Although, knowing that didn't make things easier. Jason and his Dad drove our cars (and dog) up to Ohio, while my Mom flew back with me, the three kids and my cat as our carry-on! It was a bit chaotic, but we made it there in one piece. :)

Last picture of us at our Texas home. This is the morning the kids and I left to start our new life in Ohio. *tear*

July
My in-laws graciously opened up their house to our family of five (plus a cat and dog) while we continued our house hunt. Luckily, we did find THE ONE after an intense few weeks of house hunting! The kids were also enjoying a beautiful summer in Ohio. One of the downsides of living in Houston is that the summers are unbearable and you can't be outside for more than a few minutes at a time. They loved playing outside on the slip 'n slide, riding bikes and scooters and enjoying many trips to the park. I also helped throw a gorgeous bridal shower for my little sister, which was a joy to plan!

Our New Home!

August
A fabulous month! Not only did my baby sister get married to an amazing guy, but we also moved into our house! Her wedding was absolutely beautiful and I'm so happy that she found the man of her dreams.

September
Because I'm certifiably insane, we decided it would be an awesome idea to have Connor's third birthday party at our new house. Less than a month after moving in. Boxes were everywhere and the place was definitely not very "homey" feeling, but it was great to celebrate his birthday with our families. We had never done that before. This house is HUGE, so I have a feeling we'll be hosting many celebrations for years to come.

October
Fall in Ohio. There's nothing better. I have longed for this season... and it didn't let me down. Beautiful foliage, warm days and cool evenings. The smells. Oh the smells of Fall! It was amazing being able to take the kids to all of the places I enjoyed visiting as a girl during this time of year. We also had family over for Halloween and the boys were able to trick or treat with their cousins! They also experience what it was like to trick or treat in the snow... only up North! :)

November
The boys experienced their first snow fall while living in Ohio. It was beautiful, but didn't last too long. After six months away, Aidan, Hayley and I decided to head back to Houston for a little visit with our much missed friends. We also spent Thanksgiving with my family up at my sister's house. After eating a delicious dinner, two of my sisters and I headed out for an evening of Black Friday shopping! And, we were finally able to visit some of our closest friends who live in Baltimore. My in-laws watched the boys for the weekend, while Jason, Hayley and I drove out to see them. Oh the luxury of having babysitters nearby!

December
Our first Christmas in our new home. It was a bit bittersweet that Hayley's first Christmas wasn't in the house that we brought her (and her brothers) home to. But, it was wonderful spending it with our families. The kids had a great time opening gifts from Santa, visiting relatives, playing with cousins and enjoying their first Christmas living in Ohio. They also got to experience cutting down their own Christmas tree for the first time... definitely a new tradition that we'll be continuing each year.

It's been a busy year to say the least! While moving has been difficult, the process has been a bit easier just knowing that I get to see our family so much more than we have in the past six years.

They're worth it. :)
